Rotherfield โ€” Corten External Staircase

This bespoke double staircase replaced an existing stone staircase within a landscaped private garden. From the central lower level, one flight rises to the left and the other to the right.

The ground was surveyed using EDM equipment and the new geometry carefully set out so that both curved flights followed the changing levels and matched accurately. The ramped and curved sections were formed and welded in situ to achieve the required fit.

Each corten cladding panel was individually folded using a press brake and weathered off site for four weeks. This allowed the initial oxidation to develop before installation, reducing the risk of run-off staining the new patio.

The balustrades were laser-profiled from 20mm-thick solid steel plate, creating a consistent architectural finish across both flights.

Scope: EDM survey, setting out, bespoke fabrication, off-site weathering, delivery and installation.
