Cornfield Terrace, Eastbourne — Galvanised External Access Staircase

This new external steel staircase provides access to an apartment constructed at the rear of an existing terraced building.

The staircase was manually surveyed and set out over an existing roof with limited load capacity. Transfer beams and spreader plates distribute the imposed loads onto the internal load-bearing walls without penetrating the roof covering.

The staircase incorporates Durbar steel treads and mild-steel balustrades. A galvanised finish was selected to provide economical long-term external protection.

The steelwork was manufactured in sections and assembled in situ due to the rooftop location.

Scope: Site survey, setting out, design development, detailing, fabrication, galvanising, delivery and installation.
